Por qué no participamos en el Black Friday: una reflexión sobre el consumo consciente

Why we don't participate in Black Friday: a reflection on conscious consumption

At Utila Naturals , we are proud to offer natural cosmetics that respect the environment and support sustainable practices. Our mission has always been to promote more conscious and responsible consumption, moving away from impulsive purchasing models that often prioritize profit over the well-being of the planet and people.

For this reason, we decided not to participate in Black Friday . We know this day is highly anticipated by many consumers, but we want to be transparent with our customers and explain why we believe this practice doesn't fit with our values or those of small artisan businesses like ours.

Black Friday benefits large corporations

Black Friday is primarily designed to benefit large corporations with massive marketing and mass production budgets. These companies can afford to offer extreme discounts because their business model is based on massive sales volumes, often at the expense of unethical practices, such as labor exploitation or the use of environmentally harmful materials.

On the other hand, small businesses like ours work with local raw materials, handcraft products, and strive to maintain fair prices year-round. Reducing our prices further would mean compromising the quality of our products or undervaluing the effort behind each creation, something we are not willing to do.

The environmental impact of excessive consumption

Black Friday also fosters a culture of excessive consumption. This impulse to buy more, often unnecessary things, leads to increased waste production, the use of plastic packaging, and the waste of natural resources. At Utila Naturals, we believe that every purchase should be made with awareness, knowing that behind every product lies an environmental impact.

Deceptive marketing and false promotions

It's important to note that many Black Friday deals aren't as real as they seem. In some cases, prices are inflated weeks in advance and then offered supposed discounts. This can lead consumers to spend more money on things they don't need, under the illusion of saving.

Supporting a fairer model

Instead of participating in Black Friday, at Utila Naturals we maintain fair prices year-round. We believe in transparency and offering products that reflect their true value—for our customers, artisans, and the environment.

We want to invite you to reflect with us on your consumer habits. Instead of getting caught up in the Black Friday rush, consider supporting local and sustainable businesses, like ours, that work every day to offer you quality, ethics, and care for the planet.

Thank you for choosing different

We are deeply grateful to our customers who understand and value our philosophy. Together, we can build a more conscious and environmentally friendly world. Remember that every little helps, and choosing quality over quantity is a big step toward a more sustainable future.
